Why won’t my Chart display?

All Charts require at least one measure to display.

If you see the message: Add a measure to continue either you need to select a measure and drag it to either the Rows or Columns area.

Many charts require a particular combination of measures and/or fields to be displayed.

If you have added a measure and your chart is still not displaying, check for one of the following messages and address the issue:

 

  • Dual-Axis Column-Line charts require two or more Measures in the Columns area. Other fields or dimension cannot be added to the Columns area.

  • Dual-Axis Column-Spline charts require two or more Measures in the Columns area. Other fields or dimension cannot be added to the Columns area.

  • Dual-Axis Stacked Column Line charts require three or more Measures in the columns area. Other fields or dimensions cannot be added to the columns area.

  • Dual-Axis Stacked Column Spline charts require three or more Measures in the columns area. Other fields or dimensions cannot be added to the columns area.

  • Multi-Axis Line charts require two or more Measures in the Columns area. Other fields or dimensions cannot be added to the Columns area.

  • Multi-Axis Spline charts require two or more Measures in the Columns area. Other fields or dimensions cannot be added to the Columns area.

  • Multi-Axis Column charts require two or more Measures in the Columns area. Other fields or dimensions cannot be added to the Columns area.

  • To create a Time-Series chart, put a single Date or Time field on Rows area. The grouping must be set to a day or smaller interval.

  • Scatter charts require two Measures in the Columns area, and cannot be placed between other fields or dimensions.

  • Bubble charts require three measures in the Columns area; they can’t be placed between other fields or measures.

  • Dual-Level Pie charts require at least one measure and one field. Fields must be placed in the Rows area. Only one field can be placed in the Rows area if the box contains a measure. Two fields can be placed in the Rows area if the box contains no measures. Multiple measures are allowed in the Rows area, but only one measure is allowed in the Columns area.

  • Non-OLAP heat map charts require one field, followed by one Measure, in the Columns box to create the x-axis. They require one field in the Rows box to create the y-axis.

  • Time Series Heat Map charts require one Measure in the Columns box and one ‘DateTime’ type field in the Rows box. The grouping must be set to Hour by Day interval.

  • Non-OLAP Dual-Measure Tree Map charts require two Measures in the Columns area and one Field in the Rows area.
