Initially, your Community BI will only allow you to interrogate the data in your CDS database.
You may have other data sources in your organisation that you want to have available in Community BI.
CDS can connect relation databases that utilise an ODBC connection – these include common databases such as MySQL, Oracle and PostgreSQL.
Whilst the task to connect is relatively straightforward, in order to make the data usable in Community BI we need to review the data source to understand the implications across many factors, including, but not limited to, the following:
- connection method
- security considerations
- treatment of date/time and locale
- mapping protocols between related tables/fields
- translating treatment of multi-select drop-down fields
